The reverse of each coin depicts an ox and a calf standing on grass with hills in the background. As well as the inscription ‘Year of the Ox’ and the Chinese character for ‘ox’, the design also incorporates The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, each coin features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse.

The coins are struck from 99.9% pure silver.
The Perth Mint will produce up to 300,000 1oz silver coins. Production will cease when the mintage is fully sold or at the end of the series, whichever comes first.
No mintage limit applies to 1 Kilo, 1/2 Kilo, 10oz, 5oz, 2oz and 1/2oz silver coins. However, production of these coins (except the 1 Kilo) will close at the end of 2009, when The Perth Mint will declare each coin’s official mintage. Production of 1 Kilo coins will cease at the end of the series.
All bullion coins are packed in protective acrylic capsules.
