Areas of activity
Tavid’s main areas of activity are foreign investment gold and currency exchange, but the company also deals with currency transfers as well as express transfers between Estonia, Finland, and Sweden.
History
AS Tavid was established on 1 April 1991. The founder of the company was Alar Tamming, who is the sole owner to this day. The name of the company “Tavid” originates from the fact that Alar Tamming used to run the Tallinn Video Centre and hence the name Tavid was formed.
In 1992, with the emergence of the Estonian kroon, Tavid started to deal with currency exchange. Since then the company has grown rapidly. Besides its main office on Aia Street, other offices were established in Estonia. In 1996, the first foreign office Tavex OY was established in Finland. This branch is still operational and successful regardless of the euro having been taken into use in Finland in 2002. In 2002, a branch named Tavex SIA was also established in Latvia. In the same year, Tavid also achieved the 5th place in the Gasell Top. In July 2004, a major change occurred when the sale of investment gold was added to our currency exchange services. In February 2005, Tavid opened a branch in Sweden under the name Tavex AB. In the fall of 2006, we opened our second office in Alfa, which is the most popular shopping centre in Riga, Latvia.
Today
Today the Tavid group has some 100 employees with 7 offices in Estonia, 2 in Latvia and 1 in both Finland and Sweden. By volume we are the largest currency exchange company in Estonia.
Tavid is a member of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and cooperates closely with the Estonian Financial Intelligence Unit. Tavid’s annual audits are carried out by KPMG Estonia.
Tavid has direct contracts with some of the world's biggest investment gold factories like: • The Perth Mint in Australia, which produces both coins and bars; • China Great Wall Coins Investments Ltd - Chinese gold coin producer; • Kumbyol Corporation, which belongs to the Central Bank of DPR Korea; • PAMP Suisse - Swiss gold bar producer. • Valcambi - Swiss gold bar producer. In addition to the mentioned factories, Tavid has also good relations with several investment gold wholesalers in different parts of the world. |
