Obverse: The bust of Lady Liberty is wearing a coronet inscribed with "LIBERTY". Thirteen stars surround the bust, representing the original American colonies. Date is positioned below.
Reverse: A heraldic eagle grips an olive branch, the classic symbol of peace, while military prowess is symbolized by a bundle of arrows. Rays of light emanate from the eagle's wings. Above the eagle is a circle of thirteen stars, once again symbolic of the original colonies and statement, "In God We Trust". "E Pluribus Unum" is inscribed on the beak of the eagle. Double Eagles from 1877 to 1907, have the denomination "TWENTY DOLLARS" spelled out. |
